Psychopharmacology

Depression, anxiety, stress, trauma with difficulty coping, fatigue, difficulty with concentration and several other symptoms can cause a disruption in our ability to function at home, work or in our relationships. These symptoms if not addressed can eventually lead to chronic imbalance in our neurochemicals and may lead to physical ailments.

I, Dr Amita Talati, have been in psychiatry practice for over twenty years and have a wide experience with medication management. Brief Psychotherapy is part of the treatment approach to help cope with stressors.

If you have any thoughts of hurting yourself or others, or are unsure about your situation it is advised that you call 911 or go to the nearest emergency room.

Medications are approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Medications are effective within two to four weeks once the medication and dose that is well tolerated and works with your individual biochemistry is established. This process may occasionally take a few weeks. Any concerns about your medication can be addressed at your appointment.

Your goal may be to eventually discontinue your medication. This is not advised without consulting a doctor and without supervision. As your overall health improves it may be possible to lower your medication. You are a partner in your care and taking the medication as prescribed is your responsibility. Some medications can cause withdrawal effects or quick recurrence of symptoms if stopped suddenly.
