Amita Talati

Dr. Amita Talati MD, ABIHM

My name is Dr. Amita Talati MD, ABIHM and I am double board-certified by American Board of Psychiatry & Neurology and American Board of Integrative & Holistic Medicine. I have completed “Applying Functional Medicine in Clinical practice” course at the Institute of Functional Medicine. I have been in private practice for over twenty years with extensive experience in mental health and integrative care. I am an integrative/functional based Psychiatrist with lifestyle as well as psychopharmocology related treatment approaches. I help adults, especially women with stress and related illnesses, anxiety, panic anxiety, depression, women’s issues, trauma and several other mental health problems affecting work, home or relationships. My assessment and treatment plans consider the health and well-being of a person as a whole. The mind and mental health involve several aspects, such as biological, metabolic, psycho-social and spiritual. Hence my recommendations may include medications, lab tests and referral for services by a nutritionist, individual or couples psychotherapist and/or group work, seminars for relaxation and positive thinking. To provide the highest quality care, I collaborate with other caring, qualified practitioners to offer some of these specialized services.

April Stone

April Stone, APN, PMHNP-BC

My name is April Stone and I am an ANCC Board Certified Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner with over 17 years of experience treating ages across the lifespan. I began my career at Cooper University Hospital in 2001 as an emergency medicine and critical care registered nurse. I received my graduate degree from Drexel University and moved on to an outpatient setting to pursue my passion of treating individuals suffering from mental illness. I utilize a holistic approach to psychiatric care which combines individualized psychotropic medication management guided by genetic testing and psychotherapeutic strategies. I specialize in treating a vast range of mental health illnesses including Posttraumatic Stress Disorder, Depression, Anxiety, Insomnia, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD), and Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), age 8 and up. I am aware about the challenges parents may encounter when seeking adequate psychiatric care for their children. Whether treating a child, adolescent, or adult, my attentive and comprehensive nature will allow you to feel you are getting the compassion and undivided attention you deserve. I prefer a team approach to treatment carefully considering feedback from clients and parents to form a collaborative plan of care.

Mental health has become an increasingly polarizing issue in our world today that can no longer be ignored. I would like to educate individuals about the prevalence of mental health in our community. Often, the concept of mental illness carries a negative stigma, which creates shame and embarrassment in suffering individuals. Mental illness is often derived from genetic and environmental factors. There is evidence to support these factors directly impacting the chemicals in the brain (neurotransmitters) that control a person’s mood and ability to regulate emotions. This can be similar in comparison to the nature of a medical condition such as diabetes when an individual experiences an imbalance in blood glucose requiring insulin to treat the abnormality of this particular chemical within the body. The concept of regulating chemicals within the body is analogous when treating mental illness. Advances in technology have made it possible for clinicians to utilize genetic testing to identify the best treatment modality for each individual. The use of genetic testing as a guide for prescribing psychotropic medications can help to eliminate the frustrating battle of searching for the right regimen by reporting specific details regarding how the individual may respond and metabolize medications. The use of coping strategies along with the correct psychotropic medications can alleviate inner struggle of symptoms an individual may encounter on a daily basis. With time and patience, relief is possible from feeling overwhelmed with anxiety and the fog of depression. We need to come together to gain an awareness of mental illness. Struggling individuals should not feel ashamed to access treatment. As a practitioner in mental health, I am extremely passionate in my contributions to eradicate the disparity and suffering that coexist with mental illness.
